Christopher Laughlin, guitar and Beth Bryngelson, flute are committed promoters of the enjoyment of classical music. In addition to public performances, the Laughlin-Bryngelson duo offers education and outreach programs such as master classes, coaching sessions, pre-concert lectures, school programs and performances for elderly, disabled, and other under-served groups.
Their mission to make classical music accessible and available to audiences of all ages is what makes this duo truly unique. In concert they welcome the novice listener with brief discussions about the history and inspiration of the works being performed. Their comfortable rapport on stage creates a warm and inspiring atmosphere that hooks young listeners into the concert going experience.
In addition to performing Mr. Laughlin & Ms. Bryngelson are devoted to teaching and encouraging young musicians. Christopher Laughlin is founder and executive director of the Christopher Laughlin School of Music in Northbrook Illinois that provides private instruction and ensemble classes for children and adults as well as Music Together®, which introduces toddlers and infants to music. He teaches guitar at the collegiate level at Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and University of Illinois in Chicago. He has given master classes throughout the world as well as closer to home at places such as Northern Illinois University, South Texas Guitar Society and Eastern Florida Classical Guitar Society.
Beth Bryngelson was founder and music director for the chamber music series Abendmusik that presented informal and informative concerts in the Chicago area for 4 years. Ms. Bryngelson is much in demand as a private instructor to professional and amateur musicians. Her students are primarily flutists, but she often works with other instrumentals on shaping of musical ideas as well as teaching about the breathing techniques she learned from her studies with Arnold Jacobs. It is in this capacity that she has given many master classes. In addition to working with musicians, Ms. Bryngelson has given pre-concert lectures for the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.
